like a true survivor. [Apr. 8th, 2004|02:40 pm]
[mood |thirstythirsty]
[music |ryan adams - ah, life]

Round-up of life.

TV: American Idol, which I will forever blame Ruthie and CJ for getting me hooked on: is it wrong that I really like Jasmine? She's my favorite of the ladies. And this year on the armed forces satellite we get episodes the morning after they air in the states. Not too bad!

Music: Wilco's A Ghost Is Born. Another solid effort. I'm already in love with "Hummingbird."

Other: popslash. I totally enjoyed the remix challenge, as always, and I'm so thankful to Jae for doing such a lovely job with my story. Now that's done, I'm going to be moving slightly-more-permanently to [info]monkiedude for other fandom goodness.

In that vein, is anyone interested in adopting the Joey/Justin story listing (not-archive)? I'd love for it to continue to be a useful resource for those who want it.

Job searching sucks ass.

Happy belated to the darling [info]apetslife!

Huge, major thanks to the lovely individual who [ remixed ] my story damn, baby. It's awesome and the world needs more Joey/Justin. And thanks as always to the lovely [info]cathybites for organzing.

I'm listening to too much Jet and BT's listening to too much Postal Service and five months, kiddies.

Coming out of the WIP closet day!

First, the pure popslash one. I actually really love this story, but sincerely doubt I'll ever finish it. Joey/JC, of course, and the genie in the bottle -- completely inspired by Joey's tee shirts.

Bottle. )

Also, check out [ geekboys ] in my other journal (popslash/lotrips, JC/Dom).

Dude, I totally had something to post about before I saw this picture, but now my brain -- she is fried. Below, a GIP for my other journal. Oh, Ron.

[music |jet - are you gonna be my girl]

Joe Gibbs, y'all. Probably the icon of my childhood. I'm beyond-words excited, not the least because I'll be home when next season starts.

That's worthy of a whole post right there, but in other news: I've seen a lot of people asking for both lotrips and harry potter recs recently. I spent the afternoon wading through my bookmarks and finally updated my recs page (first time since November for hp, and May for lotrips). You can find them [ here ].

And in honor of The O.C. day ... any good fic recs?

[music |michael mcdonald - I keep forgettin']

Hahaha, lordy, jetlag never fails to kick my ass all over.

Back in Turkeyland with one (1) smelly dog and one (1) whiny flu-ridden husband. E-mails and apologies to follow for everyone I was supposed to catch up with while I was home; I was in Georgia sooner and longer than planned due to BT getting sick, and didn't have internet access there. So, yes.

Happy belated chrismukkah to all, and happy belated birthdays to [info]bossymarmalade and [info]rufus1227.

Now to wade through friendslists and three fandoms' worth of secret santa stories.

"the currency of human emotion"? [Dec. 5th, 2003|10:07 am]
[mood |excitedexcited]
[music |sugababes - hole in the head]

Houseguests have left and we go home in one week. A week!

Anyway. Have had midnight RotK showing tickets procured for me and a friend. BT has managed to worm himself out of seeing it (for the first time) with me. Probably not a bad decision, seeing as how I keep bawling when I listen to the soundtrack. But I'm blaming that on the ridiculous quantities of DayQuil I'm consuming (which reminds me, I might ought to check what that little item on the box says about not using the product for more than x days in a row). Indeed, it made me wonder if I was hallucinating the Dom/Orli kiss. But, no. No, I was not.

(I punished BT by making him watch the cast commentary of the TTT EE with me. Heh. Sean Astin, I like you, and you made my year when I learned that there's going to be a Goonies 2, but for the love of everything ever, shut up.)

They're starting to show The O.C. on the Armed Forces Network here next week. Finally, man, although it means I need to figure out how to program my VCR to tape that cable connection so I'm not behind when I get back from the states.

Justin got nominated for a Grammy for Album of the Year. Wow. What an incredible honor for him. Tarnished though it may be with the inclusion of Evanescence as competition. They may even top Creed in the race for the band most likely to make my ears bleed great big bloody gobs of blood.

And finally, in the fandom roundup: a query. Does anyone know when HP5 is coming out in paperback? BT is stuck for ideas for Xmas presents and I reeeally want the Brit versions of the books, but I kind of want all five. If it's in the next few months I'll wait for my birthday, but if it won't be until next summer or something I might as well go ahead and ask for 1-4.

I have started upon the Great Ripping Project of 2003 since the receipt of the iPod, and have hit a snag. Mainly, why the eff does iTunes rip albums so slowly? Arrgh.

In other words, [ the hobbits are a boyband ]. Haven't we seen this photoshoot before?

obligatory Potter squee post. [Nov. 14th, 2003|03:55 pm]
[mood |chipperchipper]
[music |fountains of wayne - stacy's mom]

Firstly, the trailer. Looks great, save for Lupin's moustache. Moustache? Eh. Anyway. BT and I kept singing the song afterwards, and we had a fight about which act/scene in Macbeth the lyrics are from. In the interest of full disclosure, he won. I suck.

(Then I had to watch the RotK trailer a few times afterwards, and really, there's no contest over which I'm more excited for.)

Perhaps more - exciting? that's not really the right word, but. more something - was the [ footage from extra ]. Um. Dan's voice* and Rupert's haircut! I continue to be smitten. Has anyone been able to capture the file from the website?

Fic-wise, I'm still finding new (to me) stuff I adore. That fandom is huge, huge. Check out a WIP/recs-type post that I keep in my other LJ [ here ]. And finally, anyone that's remotely into HP and hasn't been reading the LJ RPG [info]nocturne_alley needs to be. It's absolutely brilliant writing, and makes me laugh out loud frequently. Check out the fan community [info]nraged for a good introduction.

* - his voice, kids. Guh. They really shouldn't let me teach in the high school here, I think.

all the ladies in the place, if you got real hair, real fingernails ... [Nov. 12th, 2003|12:46 pm]
[mood |restlessrestless]
[music |maroon 5 - ragdoll]

Quick weighing-in on recent releases in music and film:

  • Matrix? I agree with whoever said the best part was the trailer for Troy.

  • Britney? Oh. My god. I haven't taken the CD out of the car stereo since I burned it. Even BT likes it.

  • Joey channeling Harry Connick, Jr.? Very nice, if a little wobbly on those low notes. In any event, infinitely preferable to even entertaining the notion of his doing a Weird Al-esque album.

  • Clips from the RotK soundtrack? Gave me goosebumps. (Download no. 17, The Return of the King. Guh. We're all gonna be fecking wrecks in the theatre, man.)

Relatedly, trying to decide whether to update the pictures in my Dom mood theme. I guess if I were to do it, it would make more sense to do it after the RotK publicity blitz. Well, there you go: a project for the new year.

Speaking of mood themes, I did some significant work on a Draco one, before I realized that: Draco? not so much with the emotional range in the films. There's smug, and enraged, and then more enraged. Maybe I'll make it Draco-and-Ron, and therefore totally self-indulgent with my HP crushes. Actually, that might be kind of cool-looking ... monochromic, with all the Draco pics in either olive or grey, and the Ron ones in a goldish-bronze. Hmm.

It also appears that the TTT extended version has leaked, but I'm not on either a) a fast enough connection, or b) the right friends-of lists, to see the new stuff. And it makes me cranky because I pre-ordered it from amazon but don't really expect it to arrive before my parents arrive next Friday (!!!!) and they'll be here for a week so I have to wait another week to see it, and, and. I'm sure I could sound more spoiled, if I'm not quite sure how.

Good luck to everyone working on their secret santa stuff! I'm up for beta-ing for the usual suspects before I leave for Christmas, if ya like. (Speaking of Christmas, Joey sez: merry xxx-mas.)
